How Hover Supports Women in Tech with she++
Hover is proud to participate in the she++ Summit for their #include Fellowship Program happening April 4th – 6th this year. For their Summit, she++ will be providing a three day, all expenses paid trip to the Bay Area for 30 hard working high school students and 10 college ambassadors to act as mentors. She++ is a non-profit organization that “works to empower underrepresented groups in technology by dismantling negative stereotypes surrounding technical careers.” They focus on high school and college students, with the aim to dispel the myth that computer science is not a career for women and minorities. she++ is led by Katherine Van Kirk and Vrinda Vasavada and they have successfully paired young women with mentors in their field, and inspired a younger generation of women to achieve their goals in tech.
Here at Hover we understand the importance of supporting women in tech. Hover is a division of Tucows, which offers an abundance of opportunity for women who love the tech industry – especially one as booming as Toronto’s. Tucows, the umbrella company of Hover, Ting, OpenSRS, and Enom, may seem to have their hands full, but they take the opportunity to work with each of their companies to inspire innovation and promote women across the company. Tucows offers their companies a Women in Leadership Group, where the Toronto office brings in guest speakers, and aims to bring in women requested by the group. Tucows’ Women in Leadership also organizes events to celebrate women in the company, and coffee talks to discuss current issues that impact women in the workplace, and otherwise. Tucows also offers paid personal days and maternity and paternity leave top-up (for adoption, too). Finally, Hover itself attends and often has a booth at awesome, local, and diverse events – including Hackernest and TechTO, which provide the opportunity for different members of their team to network with other individuals in the field and learn how they can grow their careers.
Hover is excited to promote women in the tech industry and supporting she++ in their Summit is one of the best way we can think to do so. Grab tickets to their gala to support women in tech! We want to encourage and inspire all women to pursue their dreams and obtain their career goals. We make sure to listen to our audience and bring about partnerships that showcase our values as a company. That’s why we are so proud to be working with she++ and participating in their Summit. It’s happening in a couple weeks, and we know that you will have an incredible time – plus you’ll find some exciting Hover swag and a voucher to redeem for a domain name in your gift bag! We look forward to seeing what these awesome women create with their new domains.
